Ron Fried is a senior instructional designer, education researcher, and former teacher. His focus is on the areas of curriculum design, assessment, evaluation, digital and online learning, and the use of video and emerging technologies for teaching and learning. His expertise also includes developing and implementing traditional, video-based and online instruction and project management.
Ron has extensive experience in web, video- and paper-based curriculum development and delivery for both commercial and government clients. He consults on the use of video in research, training, and product demonstrations. Fried also consults internal and external clients on adult learning principles and instructional design theory and creates and implements online training courses.
Ron has designed, developed, implemented, and evaluated multi-source human performance assessments, including performance simulation testing, interview-based evaluation of occupational experience assignments, paper and pencil and online knowledge testing, game development, and group performance scenarios. He also has experience in logistical planning and implementation of advisory panels, subject matter expert reviews, faculty training, program pilots, and program launches. Fried has developed and conducted a wide range of training for both program faculty and administrators.
Ron has experience leading program and curriculum evaluation projects. This has included developing and implementing surveys, conducting interviews and focus groups, collecting data from site observations and cognitive labs, and developing and presenting written reports and oral presentations using qualitative and quantitative data to staff, stakeholders, and clients.
Ron earned a master’s degree in education from San Jose State University, with an emphasis in instructional technology and instructional design. He also earned a teaching credential in secondary education, with an emphasis in physical education, and was awarded supplementary teaching credentials in physical and general science as well as journalism. Ron earned his bachelor’s degree in journalism from San Jose State University, with an emphasis in photojournalism and a minor concentration in English.
Before becoming an instructional designer, Ron worked as a high school and middle school science teacher, which gives him a unique perspective on the needs of both students and teachers.
Ron is a nationally and internationally published photographer for newspapers, magazines, and professional and collegiate athletic teams and has over 5,000 published pictures. He is also an award-winning videographer who has received two Telly Awards for video excellence.
In his free time, Ron has coached youth sports for more than 40 years including high school and college baseball, and in 2024 was awarded lifetime membership to the American Baseball Coaches Association.
Ron launched his consulting business in 2024 out of a desire to return to his training and instructional design roots. Ron is always looking for ways to support teachers and learners with help from the latest technology tools.
